IP Telephony (Internet Protocol Telephony) also referred to as VoIP is the term used to describe data communications which exchange phone calls, voice, fax and other forms of communications over the internet, where traditionally, voice calls would be carried via analogue PSTN lines IP Telephony transports this voice data in packets via a LAN (Local Area Network) or the internet.
In 2025, PSTN is being switched off by BT Openreach, which means everyone, including businesses, currently using PSTN-based services will need to move to another service; Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provides the solution.
We can help organisation utilise IP Telephony with their legacy PBX phone systems, where data is transferred digitally on a LAN, and then transformed to analogue voice signals and sent to the PSTN. However, because of high costs associated with hardware and installation, Hosted VoIP is fast becoming the leading IP telephony solution.
With our hosted VoIP solutions, your IP phone sends digital data over the internet to our provider Gamma. Gamma handles the routing of calls, call queues, and everything else in the cloud. We can also use SIP trunking to connect a legacy IP PBX to the cloud to take advantage of any missing features.
